Buying Guide · bakery dough rounder selection RFQ
Specify a Dough Rounder for a Bread Line RFQ
Choose a dough rounder by testing the actual dough pieces it will receive from the divider, then specify the transfer, shape target and cleaning access in one RFQ. A catalogue speed or a photograph cannot show whether the proposed rounder suits your product mix.

Define the dough entering the rounder
List each product, target piece weight, dough condition and expected pieces per minute. Include the smallest and largest pieces that will run on the same equipment. State whether the dough is sticky, heavily floured or sensitive to extra handling, and identify the approved product quality checks.
Ask each bidder which rounding approach is proposed for those products. Belt and conical designs handle and transfer pieces differently. AMF lists both types and describes different product applications; that is a reason to request a trial, not proof that one design works for every formula.
Specify the divider and downstream handoffs
Show the divider discharge height, lane count, spacing and speed. Ask how pieces enter the rounder without bunching or falling onto an unsuitable surface. At the outlet, define the required spacing and direction into an intermediate proofer, conveyor or manual handling point.
A rounder that meets its own speed rating can still disrupt the line if it receives irregular spacing or delivers pieces off centre. Request a layout drawing that marks transfer heights, operator access, guards and the space needed to remove parts for cleaning.
Agree how a representative trial will be judged
Run the real dough at a representative rate and include startup, steady production and a product change. Compare piece shape, surface damage, sticking, flour use where relevant and the consistency of the exit position. Record the settings and dough conditions so another supplier can be judged against the same brief.
Ask how rounder bars or belts are adjusted and which adjustments an operator may make. AMF's range includes hinged bars and optional arrangements; those are examples of features to evaluate, not a specification for Shanghai Hongzhong equipment. Confirm the offered design and its safe cleaning method in writing.
Make service and cleaning part of the quotation
Identify food-contact surfaces, areas that collect dough, permitted cleaning tools, removable parts and access around the frame. Include a request for the model manual, spare-part identifiers and local service responsibilities. Maintenance clearance belongs on the drawing before the machine is ordered.
The final RFQ should state product range, speed window, interface dimensions, trial samples, acceptance observations and open questions. That gives a supplier a clear basis to propose a rounder and prevents a nominal capacity from standing in for a working line.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a higher rated speed always better?
No. Match the rounder to the divider's real output and test shape and transfer quality at that rate.
Can one rounder handle every dough?
Do not assume so. Trial the planned weight and dough range on the offered configuration.
What drawing should the supplier provide?
Request overall dimensions, transfer heights, access clearances, guards and the downstream outlet direction.
